I was wondering if anyone knew of any programs or websites that will allow me to ‘try out’ colors on patterns before I start? I feel like these things should already exist on the internet but I can’t find anything.
Basically, for certain patterns, have there be some sort of page I can bring into paint and paint-bucket to see what the colors I want to use will look like before I’m too far into the project to go back…
Best I can suggest is go to Ravelry and look up whatever pattern you’re considering making and then look at other projects made using the pattern (it’s one of the tabs along the top - it says ‘XXX Projects’ where XXX is the number of people on Ravelry that will own up to working that project). On the more popular ones you’ll find hundreds of examples, and some of the folks will write extensive notes on their projects and post pictures. One recent knit-a-long I participated in, Stephen West’s Rockefeller shawl - had some 600 of us happily posting as we knit along and each and every one of them was fantastically different and beautiful (you wouldn’t think there would be so many combinations of 2 colors of sock yarn!) It’s just one of many Fabulous features that make Ravelry such a great social community for both knitters and crocheters.
bernat (the yarn brand) does this on some of it’s online patterns, but there aren’t that many and most of them are baby...
